- Feelings Identification & Recording
- Especially men we often see our feelings and emotions in only black■ or white □(p88), right or wrong, good or bad, sad or happy. However, God has given us a kaleidoscope of emotions and feeling. Some emotions are even difficult to put into words. If we could color our emotion it would give us a very different picture.“Newton (1672) originally named only five primary colours: red, yellow, green, blue and violet. The emotions wheel is a tool that can help us identify some core emotions. If there is an emotion you identify, that is not on the palette, add it in where you think it can fit. With this in mind, do the exercise to help identify, record, and deal with emotions in an appropriate way.
- Later he included orange and indigo, giving seven colours by analogy to the number of notes in a musical scale.”
- Record the following in whatever format most convenient for you. (Note book. Computer, phone ……….)I – Identify the incident that evoked a feeling.F – Rate the particular feeling/s give a % to the feeling/s. (the % do not add up to 100%)AT –Automatic Thoughts that came to mind.R— Reaction during the incident. (old default patterns)R– Realistic response (Out of the “True-Self” Truths in Christ)NB: This is not a “self help” exercise to healing. We cannot do it alone. We need to first turn to the God in total surrender and trust. Then we also need to turn to healthy communities or support groups. A group that share honestly and openly, would be an ideal place to come alongside others that are serious about becoming emotionally healthy whole.Means Patrick. (2006). Men’s Secret Wars.
