I trust that the series of blogs can bring some insight and tools as how to navigate the journey of becoming real to heal. Most, if not all of us, have been told lies about ourselves that have shaped who we believes we are. Even from our primary care givers, or an absence of them, we are shaped as to who we think we are. Comments such as, “ You’ll never make it ………”, “Can’t you do anything right!”, “When will you grow up?” when we should still be playing, “How many times have I told you not to do it that way!?”, “Stop crying like a baby!” or “Cowboys don’t cry!” when there is emotional and or physical pain, …… Each comment that broke us down formed the next layer of a skewed identity based on the lies told about ourselves.
We bring this wounded self into each and every of our relationships, or push us into isolation without friends. Seeing the realities of our wounded self and its origin helps us put it in the past and put in place the truths God, our original designer, speaks over us and into us. Putting the wounded self in the past and believing the true self is often difficult and we, I did, need help to make the transition from the lies based self to the real truth self. As we see and understand the current and past realities of the good, bad, and ugly we become more real with ourselves, God, and other. From that point we start to heal.
